Summer is too long in Texas to be concerned about how you look in a sleeveless shirt. We recently came across an article by Dr. Jessica Wu on the subject of dark armpits and here’s what we found out for you.
- Dark & course underarm hair can make your armpits appear darker, even after shaving. Consider waxing instead which removes the root of the hair.
- Ask your dermatologist about erythrasma. Erythrasma is a bacterial infection that typically appears on just one side, not both. By using a special light, your dermatologist can properly diagnose and prescribe a topical antibiotic creams or oral antibiotics from Live Oak Pharmacy.
- Another cause may be the skin condition Acanthosis nigricans. Acanthosis nigricans produces brownish gray velvety patches on the underarms, the sides of the neck, and the inner thighs. Often times it’s hereditary but weight gain and diabetes can also cause it. Talk with your doctor to find out more and what it’s underlying cause is. Treatment may include customized compounded creams prescribed by your doctor.
If you have questions about compounds or you’d like us to contact your physician to tell them more about compounded prescriptions, give us a call at 512-476-8979 ext. 1.

Spring Break is over but if you’re already planning your summer vacation, you’re not alone. According to a travel trends survey from TripAdvisor, 36 percent of Americans say they expect to spend more on leisure travel in 2011 than they did last year, and 42 percent expect to spend the same amount.
Las Vegas, New York, and San Francisco are the most popular intended destinations this year, and 69 percent of people in the survey said they’re planning an international vacation. Europe is the No. 1 choice, followed by Asia and South America.
If you’re planning on some travel, check out our pharmacist’s medication travel tips!
Be sure to keep your medications in your carry-on in the event of lost or delayed luggage, for information on what is and is not allowed by the TSA, click here.
Don’t forget your medication list. In an emergency it can make all the difference – don’t have one? Download one here.
Keep your medications, including over-the-counter medications, in their original packaging. You don’t want to take the wrong medication.
Remember that your pharmacist is an important part of your health care team!
Air travel can also dry out your lips. The humidity on a plane hovers around 10%. That leaves lips feeling dry and tight. Be sure to slather on a quality lip balm like our Mighty Minty, Lemongrass or Citrus sport before flying the friendly skies!
Also check out these tips for coping with Jet Lag from Dr. Weihl.

It’s a good thing you’re reading this and not listening to it because you may have not heard that Up to one-quarter of college students tested suffered from hearing loss. The culprit may be be due to the use of personal music players such as MP3 players, according to a new study. The ability to learn is directly affected by the ability to hear and a loss of a little as 15 decibels could have an effect.
“Some experts have suggested that increased rates of hearing loss in young adults may be due to the widespread use of personal music players. This study did find that the highest levels of high-frequency hearing loss were in male students who said they used personal music players.”

Managing your time better is often a matter of identifying the tasks you don’t really need to do.
Here’s one approach: Write up a list of everything you do during the day. Then analyze your list by asking: “Who could take care of this if I got sick?” This will help you identify both the chores you can delegate and the workers capable of taking them on.
You’ll simplify your life, and your team will get added experience and responsibility.
Another way to free your time is to ask us about getting auto refills with text or email alerts sent right to your phone! Ask our team about it today!

This week is
RISE Austin and next is
South by Southwest. Creative juices will be overflowing in the next several weeks! Creativity isn’t just a process. It’s a value. To become more creative, you have to accept the beliefs and practice the behaviors that help creativity to flourish. For a more inspired and creative life, here are a few of the values you should live:
- A sense of wonder. Don’t take a cynical, seen-it-all attitude. Pretend you’re a child experiencing everything in life for the first time. Ask questions about the world around you.
- Pursuit of ideas. Don’t hold back. As soon as you feel a spark of interest in something, regardless of how “practical” it seems, let yourself go with it. Follow your ideas wherever they take you.
- Courage. You’ve got to be fearless and not worry about what others may think. Don’t try to be like everyone else. Take your own approach, whatever you’re doing.
- Patience. You can’t hurry creativity, so take time to ponder your ideas. Sit down, relax, have a cup of tea, and think things over. That’s usually how the best ideas bloom.

Although Henri Matisse was nearly 28 years younger than Auguste Renoir, the two great artists were dear friends and frequent companions.
When Renoir was confined to his home during the last decade of his life, Matisse visited him daily. Renoir, almost paralyzed by arthritis, continued to paint in spite of his infirmities.
One day as Matisse watched the elder painter working in his studio, fighting torturous pain with each brush stroke, he blurted out: “Auguste, why do you continue to paint when you are in such agony?”
Renoir answered simply: “The beauty remains; the pain passes.”
And so, almost to his dying day, Renoir put paint to canvas.
One of his most famous paintings, “The Bathers,” was completed just two years before his passing, 14 years after he was stricken by the disabling disease.

Is pain not letting you do the things you love? Come in and talk with our pharmacist today to see what your treatment options might be.
