Today is HAAM Benefit Day! HAAM, the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, helps provide uninsured, professional musician in the Austin-area with access to low-cost primary health care services, basic dental care and mental health counseling. Live Oak Pharmacy will be donating 5% of our non-prescription retail sales to HAAM Benefit Day and playing music by local Austin musicians! This is a great way to stay well, enjoy local music andĀ help others too!
The musical lineup for the day includes 120 volunteering bands and solo artists — more than ever before. Many of them are HAAM member-musicians, the very people for whom Health Alliance for Austin Musicians provides affordable healthcare services that focus on prevention and wellness including primary medical care, basic dental care, mental health care, and hearing and vision care.
Among the artists and acts are Austin roots rockers Reckless Kelly and legendary performer Ray Wylie Hubbard, who will both perform at Whole Foods Market.
The Riverside location of Run-Tex (in collaboration with United Healthcare and Austin Association of Health Underwriters) will host “The HAAM Hour” at Lady Bird Lake: a four-hour event, 5-9 p.m. in the parking lot, with The Daze (5 p.m.), a run/walk/jog around the lake (6-7 p.m.), Michelle Armstrong & The Steps (7-8 p.m.) and Lost Mexico (8-9 p.m.).
Three locations along Congress Avenue — 111 Congress, 301 Congress and 401 Congress — will host musical performances during the lunch hour.
101X will do a live remote with Hollywood Gossip at the ThunderCloud Subs location on Riverside Drive.
Restaurants, offices, retail outlets and other venues — including Phil’s Icehouse and Romeo’s — plan to offer great musical guests for customers.
Proceeds from the 5th Annual HAAM Benefit Day – generated by business like Live Oak Pharmacy and organizations that pledge 5% of the day’s sales or make a donation; area residents who make purchases and eat out; and generous foundations that offer matching grants – make it possible to expand the healthcare service programs for HAAM member-musicians, more than 2,100 served in the past five years. New this year is the option to donate $10 to HAAM by texting “AUSTIN” to 85944.
