Participants in a study report that the “high” feeling they get from exercising and the high they feel when helping others are similar. Helping someone may work like yoga or meditation in that such action lowers heart rates, blood pressure and metabolism.
A recent study looked at 1,700 women and found that 88% of them felt calm and relieved from pain and headaches when they helped other people. The study also showed that 82% of the women said they could relive the helper’s high by recalling it—thereby making it a shield against negativity.
Get your dose of helper’s high and join our AIDS Walk Austin Team! Register today by clicking here. This is the 23rd annual AIDS Walk Austin, benefiting AIDS Services of Austin. The $132,000 we raised last year helped us to provide direct care services to over 1,500 Central Texans and HIV prevention education to over 10,000 people. We walk to honor, remember, and to raise funds to address this issue in our community.
There are an estimated 6,000 people living with HIV and AIDS in Central Texas. About 20 percent of those 6,000 people are unaware of their status. The money you help raise goes to AIDS Services of Austin and the fundraising teams of Austin’s other outstanding AIDS service and education providers! Of every dollar donated to ASA, 87% goes directly to services, a mark of good stewardship. Your contribution will make a difference in someone’s life right here in Austin.
